at my parents house

ah nj. everything is so green here, its a very pretty time of the year. we have roses and other flowers in our yard. we planted grape vines and for some reason there are raspberries EVERYWHERE! but not ripe yet. (ill have to make a trip back soon for some.)the blueberries will ripen in a month or so, too.

sometimes, as i am pulling into the driveway i have pulled into so many times before, i think i should move back here. move back into the woods of nj. life is so easy for me here- i know everyone, i know where everything is. there are so many people who love me here.

oh that constant pull of comfortable vs. everything else. my angel is soothingly saying 'dont get stuck! go forth, be brave!' and my devil is hissing 'stay! stay! it would make your mom happy. you can save money. you wont get lost driving (much). there are lakes, forrests, beaches, horses. raspberries. honeysuckles, goddammit! there are honeysuckles here! you feel calm here, you wake up feeling fine and easy."

ohh that constant pull. my parents house is a Comfort Flytrap, sticky and ozzingly sweet. but i have been practicing my metamorphisis for years now, and i think i am almost on my way to becoming a Non-Attachted Butterfly.

(note for humor's sake: to get rid of my thoughts about this, i wanted to run long and hard outside, for miles and miles, winding in and out of the old trees and the bird's songs. however, i dont live here and i have no sneakers here. so i ran on the treadmill in my basement in ballet flats. not real ballet flats with the toe and all, flat fake pink ballet flats from urban outfitters. i felt like a modern day guru, fleeing from attachments. if it were 5,000 years ago, id be running, out of breath on the hot hard sand. but here i am in suburban america, chanting nirvana's 'all in love is all we are' to prepare myself to not freak out when i see kyle. running in ballet shoes on a treadmill incessently repeating a late 90's grunge band lyric, running 6 miles per hour, while texting kate hall to see if i could meet her for lunch. where is god in america? i think right there, right then. what a holy experince. what a movie still. what a life. what luck.)

give me summer or give me death!

sleeping on guitar cases in berkeley california.

making our way through downtown philadelphia in the pouring rain, shouting lines from real beat poetry and from our own inner beat poetry.

drinking in the park in the daytime in an innocent way.

getting tan on rooftops and on concrete backyards in the city.

i really used to love sunbathing on matt's roof, in center city, with all those high rise office buildings all around me. naked to the world! but also safe and unknown, all at once. exposed and protected. "im tanning, reading The Nation, drinking lemonade, while you are working at computers" i used to think. "that will never be me, stuck in a dim square all day!" ak but it is, it is! i am scheming and finding ways to get back to my nude fun free nature. it might take a year (or two!?) but i will get back, dont worry!

more to come. <<

give it to me, universe! we all deserve summer!!

it is true

"The little details are our human experience," Podoll said.

- this is from an article about charities, fundraising, blogging, marketing, and i dont think it would be of interest really to anyone, so im not linking it. but it thought that sentence was true and beautiful, whether in or out of context.

UCLA’s Freshman Class Falls To Only 2 Percent African-American

UCLA’s Freshman Class Falls To Only 2 Percent African-American
In other education news, (this came after an article discussing how Samuel Alito has openly opposed "racial and ethnic quotas",) newly released statistics show that only 2 percent of this year’s freshman class at UCLA will be African-American – the lowest number at the school since 1973. The school is expected to have just under 5,000 freshmen this year. Only 96 are African American and 20 of them are recruited athletes. At UC San Diego just 1.1 percent of freshmen are African-American. According to the Los Angeles Times, the problem is rooted partly in the restrictions placed on the state's public colleges and institutions by Proposition 209, the 1996 voter initiative that banned consideration of race and gender in admissions and hiring.

Democrats Critical of Marriage Amendment Debate

this might be a little itty bit boring, but its so so so important!!

and the first sentence is funny. you can listen to the entire story from the link at the bottom.

im about to marry a girl just to piss off the republicans. EVERYONE HAS A RIGHT TO LOVE IN WHATEVER WAY THEY WISH> AT LEAST THEY ARE LOVING INSTEAD OF WAGING WAR!!!! onto article excerpt:

"after an hour or so of debating if they should really should have been debating the issue, they finally got down to actually debating the issue.vermount democrat patrick lahey did not mince words. " as united states senator i am deeply concerned about this proposal is writing discrimintation into the constitution. for the first time, for the time, in our nation's history, we'd be narrowing the constitution to narrow individual rights, and to federalize an issue of family law."
